The Territory

Cantina Sampietrana is located in Salento, the “Tacco d’Italia” (Heel of Italy due to its shape), a strip of land rich in centuries-old olive groves and vineyards, bathed by two seas, the Adriatic and the Ionian, always caressed by sea breezes that help our grapes ripen under a hot sun.

Intense and wild scents of the Mediterranean spot, characteristic of the hinterland, are combined with the flavors of the coastal areas and, thanks to an arid land, they transfer their intensity into wines with a strong character.

The area, bordered to the north by the Itria Valley, encloses the province of Lecce, Brindisi and most of Taranto; it is full of cities with great history, culture and artistic beauty as well as landing places and departures, the last piece of the ancient Via Appia and crossed by the Via Francigena.

With great cultural and food and wine traditions, full of extraordinary natural beauty, a tourist destination that offers a warm welcome and unforgettable experiences.

San Pietro Vernotico

San Pietro Vernotico, which has always belonged to the Land of Otranto and the province of Lecce, has been part of the province of Brindisi since 1927. It is located on the border and half way between the provinces of Brindisi and Lecce.

The Normans built a Baronial Tower in the town, which has always been used to defend against enemy incursions. In memory of the victory against the invasion of the Turks, every year, on the Sunday following Easter, the characteristic ritual of the Flag Auction takes place, banner and sign of war torn from the looters.

A town with great peasant, wine, oil and fruit and vegetable and artisan and textile traditions, it already boasted more than 30 wineries in the 1950s.

It is the country where Domenico Modugno grew up before becoming “Mister Volare”, the great singer and actor known all over the world.
